Healthy Kids : Health Tip: Keep Your Cool During Summer

Posted June 14, 2015

(HealthDay News) -- Elderly people and children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of the heat. But a few precautions can help them enjoy a safe, cool summer.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests:
  • Children, infants and pets should never be left in a parked car, even if the windows are open.
  • Wear lightly-colored, lightweight, loosely-fitting clothing to keep cool and comfortable.
  • Plan outdoor activities for the coolest times of day, such as morning or evening.
  • Take a cool shower or bath.
  • Always use sunscreen.
  • Seek immediate medical care if there are any signs of heat-related illness.
